Comprehensive Care for Limb Health
Peripheral artery disease (PAD) is a serious condition that, left untreated, can result in major complications including open sores, infections and injuries to the legs and feet that do not heal and can lead to amputation. South Texas Health System Edinburg’s Limb Salvage Program at the Limb Salvage and Amputation Prevention Center is committed to improving the life experience of families in the Rio Grande Valley with circulatory diseases like PAD.
The Limb Salvage Program provides a wide range of services for retaining limbs despite circulatory diseases. It is led by a multidisciplinary team of physicians specializing in vascular intervention, interventional radiology and wound care. Early detection is key, and screening is an important first step in effectively treating dangerous circulation problems. Once diagnosed, a broad range of treatment options are available.
These “revascularization” procedures can either be accomplished through surgery or by cleaning out an artery. They can improve the chances of saving the use and appearance of the limb.
